Jurassic World: Evolution is a business simulator based on the Jurassic Park franchise (particularly Jurassic World), and a Spiritual Successor of 2003's Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. It was released (digitally) for PC, PS4, and Xbox ONE on June 12, 2018, and the physical version for PS4 and Xbox ONE on July 3rd, 2018.
Congratulations, on behalf of the InGen Corporation! You are now the proud custodian of a small archipelago just off the coast of Costa Rica, known colloquially as 'The Five Deaths'. But don't let the name put you off! Play your cards right, and this set of sun-soaked paradises could make you a whole lot of money. How? You're going to make a theme park. Full of dinosaurs.
..whoa, whoa, what's with that expression? I mean, we know, there have been a couple of..minor incidents, when this idea was trialled before. But honestly, there's nothing to worry about! We've accounted for every possible scenario.

Really.
Your role will be centred around both park development and park management. Of course, the previous owners of these parks were a lot more incompetent than you seem to be, so there'll be a few minor issues to work out on the islands first - limited building room, severe financial shortfalls, wild dinosaur populations - but then you can work on creating!
Not only will you be creating new infrastructure such as restaurants, shops and viewing galleries for our guest population, but you'll be adding to our dinosaur population as well, through the miracle of our Hammond Creation Labs! Excavating dig sites will give you more DNA to use in bringing back the titans of history, from Velociraptor and T. rex to Stegosaurus and Triceratops!
Each of these animals has certain needs in terms of its food, space requirements and social group sizes, but you'll get the hang of those easily. And our resident head of genetic research, Dr. Wu, has already expressed a potential interest in diversifying our asset count, should you impress him!
Advertisement:
You'll also be working closely with the heads of our Security, Science and Entertainment divisions. They'll give you targets to hit: targets hit means more cash allocated which means more dinosaurs! Just be careful. While most of it is likely just empty threats and bluster, some of their underlings do mutter from time to time about 'potential sabotage' and 'opening gates' if they feel like they're being ignored. As long as you spread your attention between the three divisions, there should be no problems there!
And of course, scientific veteran Ian Malcolm will be there to supervise your progress. Via radio, largely, but the man has a very compelling voice. A few other familiar faces might also check in here and there: Owen Grady and Claire Dearing have raised a few potential concerns about animal welfare, which we're sure you'll dissuade fast.
And that's about it, in terms of your day-to-day concerns! All you have to do is keep the dinosaur population diverse and the guests happy. And watch out for power cuts, and those tropical storms. And make sure there's a tidy profit at the end of the month. And try to make sure you don't run out of space, and that most importantly, all your prehistoric residents remain fed and watered and, most importantly, contained.
You'll be fine.

DLC updates have added new species to the game post-release, including several from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The game's first story-based DLC, The Secrets of Doctor Wu, was released on November 20nd 2018. Its trailer, revealing additional species of 'natural' and hybrid dinosaurs, can be seen here. A second DLC campaign, Claireâs Sanctuary, depicts an adaptation of the events of Fallen Kingdom in which Claire leads you on a mission to rescue Isla Nublarâs dinosaurs from the impending eruption of Mount Sibo, and was released on June 18th, 2019.

At first, learning to play Jurassic World Evolution can feel like trying to understand a brand new language. Although developer Frontier is an expert at creating management sims that look absolutely stunning, itâs not the best at building tutorials. Therefore you might need a few Jurassic World Evolution tips to help you wade through some of the more opaque elements of the game. Itâs utterly brilliant when it all works, so let me help you get to that point more quickly. So without further ado, here are 10 essential Jurassic World Evolution tips you need to know before you start playing:
1. You can request missions in the Control Room
Sometimes things can get a little dull if youâre just waiting for that hard-earned dino dosh to trickle in, so make sure youâve always got a goal by requesting a contract or two in the Control Room menu. Building your relationship with each of the different departments in your park leads to some seriously good rewards, so keep ticking off those missions and building those friendships.
2. Try and complete the main missions on each island before you move on
There are three main story mission lines to complete on each island, and although it might be tempting to just leap off to the next dinoland as soon as you unlock an island, Iâd advise you stop and wait a little. It actually benefits you to complete as many of these story quests as you can on an island before moving onto the next one, mainly because youâll unlock new stuff and learn a few things thatâll definitely come in handy on later islands. Knowledge is power and all that.
3. Donât be afraid to decline missions
Sometimes you just donât have the resources, the available research or the fossils to complete some of the missions youâre thrown. But, donât be afraid to decline the ones that donât suit your playstyle, or your current in-game progression. There was one mission about designer dinosaurs that I was thrown early on that Iâve still not found a fossil for. You donât lose anything by declining missions, so just dismiss it and request another.
4. Struthiomimus are great at earning you some money fast
When youâre first getting started on an island, earning money from scratch can be a very, very slow process. But donât fear, the adorable little lizard folk that are Struthiomimus are here to help. Theyâre inexpensive to incubate, love being in big packs, donât need much food or space and are basically the best thing for kickstarting your finances in a new park. They wonât thank you for it, but your bank balance will.
5. Monitoring your dinosâ stats is super important
Once youâve incubated a dino donât just leave it to roam free in its little enclosure, you need to befriend it and learn all its secrets. Pay special attention to the status tab, where it lists stats like health, food, water, comfort and more. Some of these are self-explanatory, but itâs the last four that youâll need to keep an eye on throughout your dinoâs lifetime - grassland, forest, population and social - and keep their levels in the blue, rather than the red.
Grassland and Forest relate to your dinoâs enclosure, so make sure youâve got enough open space to satisfy its grassland requirement, and enough trees for the forest one.
Population relates to the amount of dinos it shares its enclosure with, so the more scaly friends it has the higher this will be. Some dinos really donât like sharing their space with more than one or two other beasties. The social bar is specifically related to how many dinos of the same species it has to interact with in the same enclosure. So when youâre incubating new dinosaurs be aware that itâs possible for dinosaurs to get lonely, or feel overwhelmed by having too many other dinos about - both of its own species and others. Iâve found theyâre the two key reasons why my dinos start acting out. And we all know thatâs when the bad things happen.
6. Having water and food is a must for each of your dino enclosures
Itâs pretty obvious that you need to make sure that your dinosaurs all have the right kinds of food available in their enclosure. Herbivores need herbivore feeders, long-necked veggiesaurs need tall feeders of the plant variety and carnivores can have carnivore feeders or live bait (sorry Mr. Goat). But itâs the water thatâs easy to forget when building new dino pens, and it can be very fussy to add later. Itâs there in the landscaping tab, but before you start adding dinos make sure thereâs actually somewhere to add a little pond. The amount of times Iâve tried to add water and be presented with obstruction or terrain errors. Just have a little landscape prod around first before your dinos die of thirst.
7. The power system is overly complicatedJurassic World Evolution Update
Power isnât one of the best explained systems, but it is one of the most important. Donât fret though, because thereâs a way to make things a lot easier to manage - and prettier to look at. Dedicate one small patch of park to be your power station and build as many power stations as you can afford. Connect them all together with pylons and then just have one string of pylons running from here to the rest of your park. Itâs then just a case of dropping substations along the line to cover your buildings and electric fences, which you can tuck away a little more out of sight.
8. Check your research centre before introducing new dinos
Adding new dino species to your park can be a bit of a headache for a number of reasons, but regularly it means adding the risk of a new disease spreading across your park. Before you drop in a new dino, make sure youâve researched cures to all the available diseases at the research centre. That way, itâs just a case of medicating the one poorly one quickly before it spreads to all its friends, rather than having to wait to find the cure first and then manically administering antidotes to your entire park.
9. You can research, and then equip, upgrades for your resources
All of your buildings can be more effective if you equip them with a couple of upgrades. You can unlock them in the research centre, and then you equip them by going to the menu for your individual buildings and tabbing across to the upgrade menu. Suddenly for a small investment your power stations are more efficient, less prone to outages and even your expedition teams can dig faster and with more success. Get upgrading.
A new gameplay video for Jurassic World: Evolution has just been released by IGN, showing off some new features. In the video, we see what a modern version of Zoo Tycoon looks like. You build facilities to research your dinosaurs, power stations to keep the lights on, feeders for your animals and pathways so everyone knows where to walk. Jeff Goldblum's wonderful voice adds a welcome nostalgia. I will never say no to more Goldblum in my day.
You can choose to focus on entertainment, science or security by picking one of three contactors: Isaac Clement, Dr. Kajal Dua or George Lambert. These decisions aren't permanent; you can pick up other contracts as the game progresses. The more work you do with a division, the more favor you'll gain, which increases your reputation and allows you to receive tougher missions. There's a lot of waiting for upgrades to your facilities that you can't just pay microtransactions to sit through. If this was a freemium mobile app, there'd be a lot of microtransactions.
The research facility offers various ways to expand your park or improve your dinosaurs. Editing dinosaur genes can give your beasts longer lifespans or more relaxed temperaments. If you're playing god, why not go overboard with it?
When your dinosaurs escape, as they are prone to do, you'll need an ACU centre to capture them safely. The game then moves to a third-person shooter inside a helicopter, where you have to aim your gun and tranquilize the dinosaur running amok.
The new video reveals the first four dinosaurs you can add to your park are Struthiomimus, Triceratops, Edmontosaurus and Ceratosaurus. Here's the list of known dinosaurs we know are going to be in Jurassic World: Evolution straight from the game's already vibrant wikia and Steam community.

Okay, so, we all agree Jurassic Park III isn't exactly the best movie in the series. From a film standpoint, it's pretty bad, but from a Jurassic Park lore point of view, it's really interesting in my opinion. The different raptor breeds, the InGen compounds, the secrets InGen was hiding, but most importantly to me, the Spinosaurus.

Most of us hate this thing because it killed the T. rex and stole its spotlight (and the logo.) Now, we know the real-world explanation for Spinosaurus' existence is that Jack Horner wanted something bigger and different than the Tyrannosaurus, and it didn't exactly work out. They basically apologized for it by destroying its skeleton in Jurassic World (which I like to pretend is the actual skeleton of the Spinosaurus.)
But real-world explanations don't really transfer over well into canon and lore. Sure, the most recent reconstructions of Spinosaurus outdate Jurassic Park III's depiction, but the fact remains that everything that happened in JPIII still happened, and is a part of the canon. Everything needs an in-universe explanation and justification to make sense story-wise.
My explanation for Spinosaurus lies in this quote:
Master pdf editor centos 6. 'I don't remember that on InGen's list.'
'It's because it wasn't on their list, and it makes you wonder what else they were up to.'
Alright, I know Jurassic Park III wasn't setting up anything, and the story was pretty vapid, but it's still canon and its possible that films after it can take these quotes to make it seem like they were setting something up. Of course Jurassic Park III wasn't around to be made to fit in with Jurassic World's story, but Jurassic World could have built off of it, and it did, as evidence by the Masrani Global website.
We know that at this point, Simon Masrani had already acquired InGen and began construction on Jurassic World the year after the events of Jurassic Park III. And if you don't believe TLW and Jurassic Park III are canon for some reason, the Masrani website talks about the escaped Pteranodons from the third film. (Also there's a Spinosaurus skeleton..)
By 1998 InGen was under the Masrani umbrella and the years from 2002 to 2004 would help lead the Masrani company on their biggest adventure yet: the construction of Jurassic World on Isla Nublar.
We know that from Jurassic World, Henry Wu and his team at Masrani/InGen were doing more than just creating theme park animals, Wu was experimenting with weaponized dinosaurs. Indominus was his first successful creation, but it's unrealistic to think it was his first ever.
Now we come back to Spinosaurus. Completely hidden from the public, its existence was kept in secrecy by Wu and his team. Its possible that as an infant, Spinosaurus was abused, kept in isolation and tested on by its human creators. This could explain why it seems so 'serial killer' in Jurassic Park III. Maybe it had a legitimate disdain for humans because suffering is all that it knows from them. Wu could have engineered Spinosaurus to be a killing machine. Bigger, stronger jaw muscles could explain why it was able to outmatch the (already juvenile) Tyrannosaurus. As for its upright stance? Well, it's possible that it's actually Oxalaia, an animal representing pre-2014 depictions of Spinosaurus. The discoveries of it being quadruped had not yet been made, and it was simply misclassified as the more popular Spinosaurus.
Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I love JP fan theories. Jurassic Park III was not a good film by any means, but I love the lore that it writes into the Jurassic Park universe.
TL;DR: Spinosaurus was engineered by Henry Wu, employed by Simon Masrani, to be combat-centered before losing the animal and research to the storm and creating Indominus rex.
EDIT: I didn't mean to imply that Simon Masrani was behind it. Masrani employed Wu when he made Indominus and had no idea of his true intentions.
